Willy Wonka

The long awaited Willy Wonka production was well worth the wait.  Once again the students at Lynn Woods were amazing.  The entire school came alive with energy and talent.  The students performed on Friday and Saturday night to 2 sold out shows.  The music, the costumes and the staging were entirely professional.  Thank you to all involved.  (more pictures will be posted later)

In Good Hands

During our recent staff Development Day the Lynn Woods educators learned about RTI (Response to Intervention) which focuses on delivering instruction via three tiers of instruction.   Quality educators are constantly learning and experimenting with new strategies and technique while matching them to the needs of the learners in front of them.  I am thrilled to say that the Lynn Woods teachers practice this philosophy!
After lunch we spent some time being trained by Lt. Zukas of the Lynn Fire Dept.   He taught us CPR, including the use of our new defibrillator.   He also taught us the Heimlich maneuver.  Thank you so much for taking the time to train us……let us hope we never need to use it!

Veteran’s Day

Lynn Woods School recognized Veteran’s Day with a special Veteran’s Day Assembly.  Under the direction of our music teacher, Ms. Cohen the 4th and 5th grade students prepared some patriotic songs for the school.  Students in Grades 2 and 3 recited poetry from memory. The gym was decorated with lovely patriotic artwork.  Students in Grades 2 and 3 also created poppies that were distributed at our assembly.  The LEHS ROTC presented colors and performed a routine.  It is clear why they have won so many awards.  Thank you LEHS ROTC!  PS…..the poppies were made from recycled products from the new Lynn Business EXCL.

Science, Science Everywhere.....thanks to General Electric!

Once again our GE neighbor has been generous enough to support the implementation of the Science Program, KNOW ATOMS.   This program brings hands on Science experiments that require the students to use the Scientific Method.   In addition to their incredible generosity, the GE also allows engineers from the GE to visit and volunteer at the school.  This allows our students to benefit from the knowledge and experience of real life engineers.  We are truly fortunate and grateful to the GE because the KNOW ATOMS program is a gift to our students.  At this point students in Grades 3, 4 & 5 are involved.  Ask them about it!

Here our 4th graders have created a concoction to test density.  Our GE volunteer, watches closely.

On the same day, down the hall, the 5th graders were testing minerals.  Look at the intensity and involvement of the students.   Another GE volunteer, works with a small group testing minerals under special light.
